The Leptons comprise a group of six members consisting of two brothers from three different generations of the same family. All six Russian brothers have doctorates in quantum physics. They defected from the USSR at a scientific convention in Brussels in 1978 relocating to Austria in order to pursue their musical ambitions in the west creating their own form of experimental electronica.
Their sound has been described as weak, with some listeners reporting a spinning sensation after listening to their music. Despite this, their recordings seem to have a universal appeal and have permeated all current musical genres as a subtle influence that once discovered seems to underly almost all music recorded since the groups inception. They are also responsible for the electronic sub-genre “Leptronica”.
Discography
Big Bang | 1979
The tracks written for this first release would have been so musically dense they would be impossible to record. The album was subsequently abandoned and so never actually existed.
Particle Epoch | 1983
After expanding their original ideas from the unreleased Big Bang, their next (first) album consisted of a huge number of extremely short tracks, some lasting only an instant.
Grand Unification | 1994
This album contained four tracks each with a duration of 10 minutes 32 seconds and followed the themes of weakness, strength, electromagnetism and gravity.
Nucleosynthesis | 2000
This album is unique in that it has no track titles at all and each disc pressed also has a random total running time anywhere between 1 and 100 minutes in length.
Recombination | 2009
This fifth release sees the brothers combining all their previous audio experimentations into something new and entirely different.
“The Leptons latest release links together all their previous experiments forming something entirely different and so universal, I predict people will still be listening to these recordings in a million years.”
