Dead Town come from the grim north west of England playing agitated post punk electronica. While writing songs specific to their town of origin Newton le Willows / Earlestown – primarily known for the Vulcan foundry one of the crucibles of the industrial revolution – their music can be applied to any ruined Northern town in post Thatcher Britain. Their music focuses on the social degeneration in a post industrial ‘dead town’ of no opportunity. Vocals are delivered in a heavy guttural regional accent giving a genuine verisimilitude to their angry words and narratives of a hopelessly debased working class consigned to a state of permanent unemployment, violent stupidity and perpetual drug addiction. Their debut album ‘The Earlestown Smackhead Riots’ recently issued on Bulbous Torso is the sonic equivalent of a vicious gang beating leaving the listener in a state of concussed despair.
