Rmutt were a married couple, Ron and Jane Mercer, who appropriated karaoke instrumental tracks of popular songs hacking them to bits then reconfiguring them adding their own instrumentation utilising various toy instruments and eccentric lyrics – improvised nursery rhyme structures sung atonally together pre-empting the mashup mix sub-genre. These previously unreleased recordings dating from 1987 were never released – partly due to music copyright infringement and partly due to their ‘songs’ being regarded as almost unlistenable.
This of course makes these unheard recordings the ideal fodder for release on Bulbous Torso who state on the CD sleeve that these recordings are ‘copyright free’. These are home recordings sourced from audio cassette and there is discernable hiss but that simply adds to their wonky charm. It is recommended that you buy your copy as soon as possible before legal action removes this record from the shelves.
